Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A massive fire broke out near the ice factory in Beliaghata on Wednesday afternoon, severely damaging multiple shops and injuring one person. The fire started in a roadside tarpaulin shop near the Sales Tax Office and spread rapidly. Thick black smoke engulfed the area as flames consumed nearby establishments. According to local sources, multiple gas cylinders exploded during the incident, intensifying the blaze. Panic spread among residents and shop owners as firefighters struggled to contain the flames.
Fourteen fire engines were deployed to the scene, with firefighting teams working continuously to control the situation. Despite their efforts, the fire kept spreading for several hours. Authorities temporarily shut down traffic on the affected road as a precaution. "Several shops were destroyed, and explosions were heard multiple times," a local resident said. Fire officials suspect the blaze originated from a gas cylinder explosion, but a detailed investigation is underway to confirm the cause.
Emergency response teams remained on-site to prevent any further escalation. The injured person was taken to a hospital for treatment, but their condition remains unknown. Officials are assessing the extent of damage and ensuring that any remaining fire risks are eliminated. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are coordinating with local businesses to evaluate losses and safety concerns.
